Each year, Travel Weekly surveys participants to determine the best of the best in travel. From airlines, to cruises, to hotel chains, 82 aspects of travel are ranked by travel advisors.

One of the lists voted upon is top destinations around the world. Here are the winners of 2022 and why you might need to start visiting these amazing places.

AFRICA – SOUTH AFRICA

For adventure, wildlife (see the Big Five!), and gorgeous scenery everywhere you look, South Africa is a destination you will remember long after you return home. Beautiful weather, an ideal coastal location, and nearby activities make Cape Town, in particular, a prime tourist destination.

Must do activity: Spotting wildlife is the obvious answer, so a tour/stay at Kruger National Park or Madikwe Game Reserve top the list.

ASIA / PACIFIC – AUSTRALIA

Australia rewards a long flight with spectacular experiences in nature, from diving The Great Barrier Reef, to walking along picturesque beaches, to exploring the rugged Outback. A land tour or cruise are great options for visiting the continent.

Must do activity: A Sydney Harbor Bridge Climb offers a breathtaking bird’s eye view of the city.

CANADA – VANCOUVER

Laid back west coast vibes, friendly people, and beautiful surroundings make Vancouver a popular destination for both tourism and relocation. Before cruising from this port city, why not add a few days to explore?

Must do activity: Walk the paved path along the water at Stanley Park and then view the colorful Brockton Point totem poles.

CARIBBEAN – ST. LUCIA

The iconic Pitons stretch towards the sky and Caribbean waves tumble across the sandy shores of this beloved island paradise. Incredible inland experiences like hiking scenic trails and bathing in the pools of one of the island’s waterfalls await.

Must do activity: Touring Sulphur Springs Park and submerging your body in the mud baths.

CENTRAL / SOUTH AMERICA – COSTA RICA

For nature lovers, it’s hard to beat Costa Rica. With its rich biodiversity and numerous microclimates, each part of the country has a different feel, literally. Towering Arenal Volcano is a stunning landmark in central Costa Rica, and its surrounding rainforests will captivate all the senses.

Must do activity: Explore the Monteverde Cloud Forest with a guide.

EUROPE – IRELAND

Visitors to the Emerald Isle ooh and ahh over the craggy coastlines and jutting cliffs, fall in love with the friendly and festive Irish, and gawk over the castles and ruins.

Must do activity: It’s hard to imagine a trip to Ireland without visiting the Cliffs of Moher.

MEXICO – RIVIERA MAYA

For the ultimate in rest and relaxation, it’s hard to find a better location than Riviera Maya, Mexico. Its proximity to the Cancun airport, abundance of all-inclusive resorts to choose from, and warmth of the locals make it a destination you’ll return to year after year.

Must do activity: Book an excursion to visit the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza.

HAWAII – MAUI

When you ask repeat travelers which Hawaiian island has their hearts, Maui is named time and time again. The Valley Isle is the second largest island in the chain and boasts unique landscapes everywhere you look. In March 2023, Trip Advisor users ranked Kāʻanapali Beach the most beautiful beach in the United States.

Must do activity: Rent a convertible and drive the Road to Hana, making stops en route at Twin Falls, Maui Garden of Eden, Hana Farms Roadside Stand, and O’heo Gulch (to name just a few destinations!)

U.S. CITY – LAS VEGAS

A long list of live entertainment options, casinos, and restaurants keep visitors tapping their toes, pulling the lever on the slot machine, and feasting away in Sin City, which tops the list for favorite U.S. city this year.

Must do activity: Walk the strip and ogle at the hotels with their magnificent water displays, flashing signs, and colorful lights.

U.S. STATE – HAWAII

The 50th state is the favorite state, and with its stunning beauty, interesting history, and unique sights and activities, it’s easy to understand why. Families, honeymooners, and retirees flock here year-round to embrace island culture while immersing themselves in stunning scenery.

Must do activity: With 5 distinct islands, it’s impossible to name one!
