Luggage Tags 101
Written on October 16, 2025
Waiting at the baggage carousel for your luggage to circle around and make its appearance can be a stressful few minutes, especially since delayed luggage can pose a challenge to the start of your trip. (We acknowledge it is also inconvenient and frustrating on the return!) Fastening luggage tags to your gear with important information can help speed up identifying and finding your suitcases.
Here are a few tips to get your tags and bags trip ready.
Choose a luggage tag that is bold or features distinct markings.
Purchase a tag in a bright color, one that is monogrammed, or customized with a photo to clearly mark your luggage. In a sea of black bags that look the same, being able to quickly and easily identify yours is priceless.
A security flap to cover your contact information is ideal.
This tag detail will shield eyes from viewing your personal information.
Look for durable materials.
Luggage is tossed around, crammed into tight spaces, and is constantly scraping against other items. Choose a luggage tag that has a strong attachment or reinforce it with a stainless-steel loop.
Don’t overshare.
The only information you should include on your luggage tag is your name, phone number, and email address. You might want to include the name and address of the hotel you’ll be staying at during your international trip, but you never want to share your home address. (For security reasons, but also, it’s just not needed.)
Try AirTags.
An AirTag can really give you peace of mind when traveling since you’ll be able to monitor your bag’s whereabouts.
Pack a few items in your carry-on luggage, too.
Even by taking measures to protect your luggage and label it properly, things can happen during travel. We recommend packing an extra outfit in your carry-on, so you have a change of clothing. (And always pack documents, identification, and medications in your carry-on!)
